This two-story academic building was part of a campus upgrade project for the Brevard County Public School District. Although the 32,000-square-foot project was originally designed with precast concrete, tilt-up concrete construction provided a safer and more economical solution. Additional panel-to-panel connections were included in the design for increased hurricane resistance.
Extreme site constraints added to the complexity of this project. The new school was to be built only 15 feet from existing school structures. Tilt-up panels were safely erected after school hours allowing school to remain open during construction. Using tilt-up saved 110 days on the schedule and nearly $100,000.
