LJB transportation engineer Veena Madineni, one of the nation’s first certified Road Safety Professionals, has advanced to the certification’s second level: Roadway Safety Professional in Infrastructure (RSP2I).
The Transportation Professional Certification Board (TPCB) created Level 2 of the Road Safety Professional certification to recognize safety professionals who have the skills needed to improve the safety performance of the surface transportation system and to develop and implement engineering programs aimed at reducing the number of fatalities and injuries due to road crashes, according to the board’s website.
Achieving RSP2I certification requires knowledge and expertise in:
- Road safety management
- Acquiring and using safety data
- Crash prediction and trend interpretation
- Target crashes and countermeasures
- Multimodal transportation safety
- Addressing safety problems with policy
- Safe System and Vision Zero approaches
Madineni is only the 48th person to achieve RSP2I certification worldwide. Her impressive resume also includes master’s and bachelor’s degrees in civil engineering, Professional Engineer (P.E.) licenses in multiple states, and Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification, along with more than 15 years of experience in traffic engineering and transportation planning.
“I’m proud to have achieved this certification, and I’m honored to continue contributing to the ‘Toward Zero Deaths’ and ‘Vision Zero’ initiatives,” she said.
Based in LJB’s corporate office in Dayton, Ohio, Madineni has worked on more than 70 traffic safety studies for the Ohio Department of Transportation, counties, and local governments, identifying the key factors that contribute to safety and mobility problems and then recommending impactful countermeasures. Many of those studies have received Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) grant funding for implementation, and she has been an integral part in designing safety solutions across the state of Ohio.
“Veena embodies the definition of a true subject matter expert,” said Andy Shahan, operations manager of LJB’s Ohio transportation practice. “She doesn’t just claim to be committed to roadway safety. Her passion, commitment and expertise have proven to provide real value to our clients—and the families and communities they serve—by improving safety and saving lives.”
