LJB traffic engineer Veena Madineni has passed the Transportation Professional Certification Board (TPCB)’s inaugural Road Safety Professional – Level I certification exam, becoming one of the first certified Road Safety Professionals.
Developed by the TPCB in collaboration with transportation and safety organizations in the United States and Canada, Road Safety Professional (RSP) certification is intended “to recognize road safety as a profession, to establish a recognized level of practice and knowledge, and to incentivize safety education,” according to the TPCB website, www.tpcb.org. By establishing a level of competency for professionals who make decisions that impact the traveling public’s safety, RSP certification developers aim to reduce motor vehicle crashes and the more than 40,000 traffic fatalities each year in the U.S.
Achieving RSP certification adds to Madineni’s already impressive resume that includes master’s and bachelor’s degrees in civil engineering, Professional Engineer (PE) licenses in multiple states, and Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification, along with more than 14 years of experience in traffic engineering and transportation planning.
“I’m very proud to have achieved RSP certification,” Madineni said. “I’m honored to use my expertise to help improve road safety and save lives on the roads.”
Based in LJB’s Dayton, Ohio, office, Madineni has worked on 50 traffic safety studies for the Ohio Department of Transportation, counties, and local governments, identifying the key factors that contribute to safety and mobility problems and then recommending impactful countermeasures. Many of those studies have received Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) grant funding for implementation.
LJB project manager Paul Goodhue explained, “Veena’s safety knowledge and expertise set her apart from her peers. Clients count on her to dissect the safety and congestion problems that they are experiencing and to recommend feasible solutions and countermeasures. Veena’s unique ability to analyze and apply the Highway Safety Manual is evident in the high-quality studies and, ultimately, funded projects that she delivers for LJB’s clients.”
